Just ordered the book through my indie bookshop - it sounds great!
And thank you for writing about the publishing process. Iām in the process of trying to find a literary agent for my second non-fiction book about the psychology of weight loss.
Four rejections to date and so I am comforted, sort of, by your story!
Hope your book does fabulously well. Best wishes. Helen McCarthy
Very interesting post! I have been writing cookery books - under my own name and for lots of other people for years and have both a novel and a childrenās book on the go. But knowing what I know about publishing - not just advances and average pay but allocation of marketing budgets etc too, I canāt justify the working hours it would take to finish either. Itās always in the back of my mind that one day my freelance work might dry up and thatās when Iāll have the time to do it. And I have started your book. Loving the premise and the way you write!
My therapist sent me your article as she knows I want to write a rom com (also maybe cosy crime someday) and thank you so much for sharing. Your post has been insightful and now I cannot wait to read your book. I have just pre-ordered on Audible. :D I started my Substack a couple of weeks ago and am primed to write a novel around my figurative 9-5 editorial job.
Wow - thank you so much for sharing your story & journey Flic this is a movie in the making! I am so excited for you and itās exactly the kind of book I know a number of people whoād love to read it including me. Off to buy/pre order now.
I re read the War of Art this weekend by Steven Pressfield who shared his own writers journey (a long string of Noās until...) along with GREAT wisdom about how to overcome Resistance and write. ššš
I've not got the slightest inkling of a novel in me, but would love to read yours. Only problem is, I'm boycotting Amazon. Will I be able to get it from anywhere else, like bookshop.org or the Hive?

This is, truly, a great piece. I am a lousy reader of cosy crime but your sounds spot on and I really hope it does blazingly well. x

Not sure how I found this substack but I like cosy and you caught me just as I was getting tired of the book I'm on.
You write brilliantly- loved this!
